Proplanner is a manufacturing process engineering and management (MPM) software firm for manufacturers of complicated assembled products such as cars, large trucks, tractors, appliances, electronics, and construction equipment. Proplanner applications automate, streamline, and integrate engineering activities for industrial and manufacturing engineers who design and plan production systems for new and modified products.

In particular, the company provides integrated applications which include Time Estimation, Line Balancing, Work Instructions, In-Plant Logistics (PFEP/eKanban/eKitting), Ergonomics, Engineering Change Management, eBOM/mBOM management, Process Routing Authoring, and FMEA/Control Plan Quality Management. Prior to founding Proplanner, Dr. David Sly founded Cimtechnologies Corporation in 1987 around his master's thesis (FactoryFLOW). FactoryFLOW was the first AutoCAD-based factory layout and material flow analysis application. Subsequently, the company developed a suite of other plant layout applications, including FactoryCAD and FactoryPLAN. These applications were eventually sold to EDS and then later to a company that later became Siemens/PLM, who continues to sell those products today. After leaving EDS to found Proplanner, Dr. Sly focused on developing a next-generation suite of integrated Plant and Process Engineering applications which heavily leveraged the latest internet technologies. Proplanner is a privately held Chapter C Corporation incorporated within the State of Iowa in April 2002 by its founder, Dr. David Sly, PE, who is currently the president and minority shareholder. The company is owned by investors and employees, with the largest institutional investors being WellMark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Emerging Growth Group, Ames Seed Capital Fund, and the Cedar Valley Venture Fund. In addition, the company has received funding from the Iowa Department of Economic Development. Proplanner is a profitable company with annual sales growth exceeding 50% for each of the past three years.

OUR EXECUTIVE TEAM Dr. David Sly, PE is President. Dr. Sly was previously President of Cimtechnologies Corporation, which was eventually sold to EDS and Siemens. Dr. Sly served as Director of the Factory Software group within EDS prior to starting Proplanner, and has over 25 years of experience in manufacturing software development and sales. Dr. Sly is also a part-time faculty member within the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, as well as the Department of Logistics and Management Information Systems at Iowa State University. Helena Poist, MBA is Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Marketing. Ms. Poist is a former university lecturer in Marketing and Vice President of Cimtechnologies Corporation. Ms. Poist has over 30 years of experience in technology marketing and operations management.
OUR PEOPLE Proplanner's staff consists of highly educated engineers, mathematicians, and scientists (most with Masters or PhD degrees in Industrial Engineering and Computer Science). Our dedicated staff members are specifically educated and experienced in our field, and are passionate and dedicated to being the most competent specialist possible. As such, our team specializes in helping companies solve the most complicated problems in the areas of video-based time estimation; assembly line balancing; configured product and process engineering; and web-deployed, auto-generated, multi-media shop floor work instructions via the use of the latest technology.
