PFEP Logistics App


The Proplanner PFEP (Plan for Every Part) Materials Handling Database is an app for storing logistics and materials handling information.

PFEP defines where parts are received, stored and delivered in the plant, as well as how the material is moved.  PFEP is accessed through the Assembly Planner application.


Many companies store detailed logistics information within one or multiple spreadsheets or MS Access databases.  With this approach, part data often becomes quickly obsolete, and it is difficult for multiple users to access the data at the same time.  Logistics data needs to be up to date, accessible, and easy to analyze. 

Part Data Accuracy

Proplanner's PFEP approach is designed to synchronize with the Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) that come from Product Engineering, as well as updated Line Balancing task (and subsequent part) assignments that come from Process Engineering. 

With these upstream integrations, changes to a line balance or a product line's BOM can quickly and accurately be identified and addressed.  PFEP flags required part location changes to quickly and easily categorize parts into those that need to be relocated from, added to, or removed from each workstation and supermarket. 

Logistics Execution

PFEP can drive part replenishment on the factory floor.  

eKanban tracks the pull of empty containers and the replenishment of full containers within a manual Kanban system.  With eKanban, engineers can see the min, max, and average part replenishment time, as well as the number of times each container has cycled during the past shift, day, week, etc. 

eKitting generates pick-lists for parts required from supermarkets to meet specific needs of a product (or workstation) on the assembly line.  With eKitting, PFEP creates ordered pick-lists for each unit (or batch of units) released to the line, and send these pick-lists to hand-held scanners or printers connected to the internet, or intranet.

Logistics Analysis

eKanban and eKitting create actionable information about part replenishment lead times and container cycling counts.  With this information, engineers can accurately adjust part and container quantities at each location to better reflect actual inventory requirements based upon the current responsiveness of the plant's internal logistics system.  These adjustments to quantities can be made within the PFEP application's executions module, and containers will be immediately dispatched or retracted as requested.
