Bringing Interactive 3D Models to the Shop Floor!

View post titled Bringing Interactive 3D Models to the Shop Floor!

Shop Floor Viewer's latest enhancement allows operators to view the 3D CAD model directly within the work instructions as they navigate the assembly process.  Operators can also manipulate the 3D model, apply their own markups, and create custom views. This brings an end-to-end connection between the engineers designing the assembly process within Assembly Planner Virtual Build module and the shop floor operators utilizing the work instructions, all sharing the same 3D Model.

Where to View CAD Model

The 3D Model can be viewed from the Activity Page in SFV, within the media gallery grid as shown below.

User Experience

Operators can interact with the model using their mouse or directly with the screen if using a tablet or touchscreen. Users can rotate or modify the camera angle as needed, select/move individual parts, explode the model and many other actions using the toolbar as the bottom. The right click menu within the CAD window also provides the ability to change part colors, show/hide parts ad reset the model.

Additionally, you can expand the model tree and highlight/hide parts within the model as needed, as well as see more CAD properties.

Saved Views

When in Sign On mode, as I edit the CAD model by adding a measurement or a callout, SFV will automatically save these edits within the Model Tree. I can review and hide/show the callouts as needed.

Views can also be created or opened by using the Select Views ability. Any user who reviews or can access this activity can use the Model Tree to see the created views.

The ability to see, manipulate, markup and even post the 3D Model back go engineering, brings whole new level of collaboration between the process designers and the assembly operators to establish robust work instructions and prove out the manufacturing design more quickly.
